A 13-year-old Briton from Lancashire admitted the rape of his 8-year-old sister. The male teen appeared before the Blackburn Magistrates Court on Thursday and said he did the act after watching porn on the family Xbox.
He recalled viewing the lewd material on the games console with a friend and decided to try what he saw on his sister whom he thought could not remember what he did since she is still small.
The teenager had seen the adult material with a friend and ‘decided to try it out’ on his sister because she was small and ‘couldn’t remember stuff’, a court heard.
He appeared before Blackburn magistrates’ court yesterday where he pleaded guilty to indecent assault and inciting the girl to perform a sexual act on him.
Blackburn MP Jack Straw has called on internet service providers to increase security so that children cannot access X-rated material.
The former home secretary told the Lancashire Telegraph: ‘This case is breathtakingly horrible.
‘It is a horrifying crime which underlines how porn is too readily available to juveniles.
‘I hope that the internet service providers recognise that they have greater responsibilities for controlling access to porn.’
According to the Xbox customer support website, users can customise their access to games, films and television content to stop children viewing unsuitable material.
Jon Brown, NSPCC specialist for tackling sexual abuse, said porn could ‘warp’ children’s views of what was normal sexual behaviour and how they treat others.
He said: ‘We know that the vast amount of inappropriate, unrealistic and sometimes downright harmful pornography some children are exposed to through the internet can be extremely damaging to young minds.’
The victim is now being looked after by specialist officers and is reported to be ‘recovering well’.
